This weekend saw me in a new venue (for me) down the road in Lakenheath.

The function? Heleanor’s 18th birthday party with friends and family at Lakenheath Pavilion.

I knew from the moment I saw the playlist she’d requested that this one was going to be a good, fun night….and I wasn’t wrong!

The venue itself is a fairly new building which can accommodate around 150 guests, and we had around 100 there on the night, mainly family members so it was a mix of age groups.

The playlist….pure, unadulterated cheese of the highest order.

At this point, many people reading this entry will say “Cheese…..I don’t want that!” – and that’s perfectly acceptable. Believe me as a mobile DJ, I’m not the greatest fan of rolling out the cheeseboard at every event (we have to listen to the music as well!). But, there are certain parties and certain situations where it works, and works well.

As a DJ I have a policy of only tending to play action dances such as the Macarena and the Hokey Cokey only when requested by the person who’s booked me. I appreciate (especially with weddings) that it’s not always wanted, and if you don’t want to hear it that’s fine with me….really!

However, Heleanor specifically asked for a lot of music from this genre and who am I to argue? Her guests were up on the floor all night and having fun, and in my book happy guests means I’ve done what I’ve been hired to do. It left me personally feeling that I’d done my job well and the party was a success. I was even asked for a pile of business cards by the club Steward, so I may well be going back there again in the not too distant future.

Whether that’s to play cheese again, or whether it’s something different…..well that’s up to the client who next books me there.
