Wedding DJ at Childerley Hall: Karina & Adam

Saturday night saw me cross another venue off of my “bucket list” of venues I’d like to work in…the fabulous Childerley Hall in Cambridgeshire.

It’s one of those venues however that’s always eluded me because I’ve been busy else where.  Karina and Adam’s misfortunes leading up to their big day gave me the opportunity I’d been waiting for for so long!

Their misfortunes? I hear you ask..

I answered the phone to a very shaky and worried sounding Karina just nine days before their big day at Childerley Hall…their DJ (who’d been booked via an agency known in DJ circles for such behaviour) had cancelled on them!

Regular readers know how much I hate this particular practice, and indeed I wrote a post on some of the reasons this happens.

Luckily for Karina and Adam, it was to be a scheduled evening off for me (I had a couple of children’s parties during the day), and not being one to see somebody in such a pickle, agreed to entertain their guests for them.

Contracts were hastily signed, a playlist of songs they wanted to hear on the night was uploaded to my systems, and my first wedding (I hope of many) at Childerley Hall beckoned.

Ooooh….do you allow couples to specify the playlist?

Yes I do. Although I prefer a little bit of flexibility to be able to do what I do very well, I’ll also take a complete list of pre-requests. What I absolutely won’t do is play them in a specific order.

Saturday’s evening reception was fully play-listed with no requests allowed on the night. Although there was no problem with the playlist it did create a bit of friction with the older guests complaining that I wasn’t playing anything to suit their tastes. Sometimes, that’s just life. I play what my couple want me to play.

So, some photo’s of the dance floor action then!

Due to the current heatwave, Karina and Adam’s evening reception was a bit of what we call a “slow burner”. Guests are outside with drinks where it’s cooler and although there was dancing for most of the evening, the real action didn’t start until about 90 minutes before the end.

And so to the playlist

As already mentioned, all of the music played during the evening was pre-selected. All I had to do was arrange them into the correct order and it seemed to work
