Wedding DJ at Longstowe Hall, Cambridgeshire

There are some venues where, from the moment you arrive, you just know the day is going to go well. Longstowe Hall is one of them.

Set just ten miles west of Cambridge, this historic country estate has been hosting weddings for years — and it’s easy to see why couples keep choosing it. The grounds are stunning, the team are warm and incredibly well-organised, and the whole place has a relaxed elegance that’s quite hard to manufacture. It either has it or it doesn’t. Longstowe has it in abundance.

I’ve had the pleasure of providing DJ and MC services here many times, including full ceremony to carriages packages, and it’s a venue I always enjoy returning to.

A venue with real character

What makes Longstowe Hall special isn’t any single feature — it’s the combination of them. The rose garden and spectacular double flower borders give you some of the best outdoor photography backdrops in the county. The restored Orangery and Longstowe Courtyard are perfect for a drinks reception. And the lakeside pavilion offers one of the most beautiful ceremony settings I’ve seen anywhere in East Anglia — genuinely at one with nature in the best possible way.

For couples who prefer a more traditional indoor ceremony, the Rose Ball Room with its oak fireplace and ornate plasterwork is equally stunning. It’s the kind of room that makes guests stop and look when they walk in.

The marquee — and why it matters for your entertainment

The main reception and evening entertainment at Longstowe takes place in the Longstowe Marquee, and it’s worth knowing a bit about it if you’re planning your evening.

It’s a traditional canvas marquee with a soaring roof height that gives it a wonderfully spacious feel — none of that low-ceiling, boxy atmosphere you get with some temporary structures. It comfortably accommodates up to 150 dining guests, and includes a proper dancefloor and a small stage area, which means your entertainment setup has real space to breathe.

From a sound perspective, the height and canvas roof are genuinely helpful. The acoustics are warm rather than echoey, and getting a great sound for both background music during dinner and a proper evening party is very straightforward here. It’s one of those rooms where the conditions work with you rather than against you.

What it’s like to work there

I’ve worked at a lot of venues across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, and the ones that stand out are almost always the ones with great people behind them. Longstowe Hall has exactly that. The team are friendly, highly experienced, and genuinely invested in every wedding going well. Communication before the day is excellent, and on the day itself, everything runs smoothly.

That matters more than most couples realise when they’re booking their suppliers. When a venue’s team and a DJ are in sync, the whole day flows naturally. When they’re not, you feel it — in the awkward gaps, the hurried announcements, the timing that’s slightly off.

At Longstowe, that’s never been an issue. Even when things haven’t gone entirely to plan — as they occasionally don’t, even at the best weddings — the team handle it with complete calm. Which makes my job considerably easier, and your day considerably better.

What couples have said

“Thank you so much for providing the music for the whole day at our wedding. Wayne was amazing at making sure all of the correct songs were played at the right time and helped to explain the running of the day with us. We would definitely recommend.”

— Cally & Shane Raffaelli, Longstowe Hall

“Wayne was lovely and very professional in setting everything up. We had to change the order of the day unexpectedly and Wayne was very understanding and helped smooth things over. Our guests really enjoyed the night. Overall, we highly recommend using Imagine Entertainment.”

— Maria & Alexander Carnarius, Longstowe Hall

Ceremony to carriages at Longstowe

If you’re considering a full day package at Longstowe Hall — music from the ceremony right through to the last dance — it’s a venue that suits that approach particularly well.

The variety of spaces across the day means there’s real scope to use music to mark each transition: something gentle and meaningful for the ceremony, background music during drinks and canapés in the courtyard, a more lively atmosphere as the marquee fills for dinner, and then a proper evening party when the dancefloor opens up.

Having one person handling all of that — rather than switching between different suppliers at different points — keeps everything consistent and calm. You’re not briefing three different people. You’re briefing one, who knows the venue, knows the flow of the day, and is invested in the whole thing from start to finish.
