Wedding DJ at The Old Hall: Amy & Dale

I love an Old Hall wedding reception, and Amy and Dale’s big night was no exception

This was my second night here of the week, having been at The Old Hall for Alex and Becky’s wedding reception the previous Sunday.

Both were brilliant nights!

The evening ran just a little bit differently this time around though.

When you’re booked at The Old Hall as a supplier, the coordinators always call a couple of weeks before the wedding to make sure you know where to be and when. The surprise for this one is that the first dance wasn’t going to happen until 8:30 in the evening.

Amy and Dale had hired the services of a singing waiter as part of their entertainment.

For those who don’t know how these work, it’s a simple concept. Jack (the waiter), dressed in the same uniform as the rest of the Old Hall waiting staff and assisted with the serving of the wedding breakfast. Once the speeches and desserts were finished, Jack sprang into song in front of the guests (I was setting up the disco at the time so although I heard what was happening….didn’t actually have the opportunity to watch him).

Once he’d finished his set, it was time to move his PA equipment from the main breakfast marquee into the dance marquee. We worked together on this to get his equipment onto the stage in such a way that he could disconnect and leave after a second set without disrupting the disco (that seems a simple enough thing to do….but when you’re working in very low light and on a black stage with black cables etc…..there’s always the risk of the wrong things being disconnected).

The first dance was Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” which Amy and Dale opted to dance to for the entire track without inviting their guests to join them (this is rare in this day and age, but also nice to see…you only have one first dance).

Another half an hour from Jack immediately after the first dance, and then it’s time to do what I do best at The Old Hall….fill the dance floor.

Although I’d been sent a pre-request list of favourite songs, Amy had advised it was a guide only and what she wanted was for the guests to be up and dancing…..challenge accepted 🙂

Motown filled a good chunk of my part of the evening, along with other genres which a lot of people call “wedding music” (there’s actually no such thing as wedding music….I certainly rarely play the same set twice).

On this occasion, it was the right mix though with appearances from the likes of Abba, Lulu, The Nolans (it’s a long time since I last played that one at a wedding) and others of a similar style.

And so, to the playlist

Much of the music below was on the pre-request list I received from Amy a couple of weeks before the wedding, along with the following instructions in an email:
